Our Martin expert, Yonca Özen, visited Martin Guitars in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, in October 2025. While there, she had the opportunity to select the finest woods that Martin reserves for truly special instruments. Working with the team at the Martin Custom Shop, she used these premium tonewoods to create a limited series of unique guitars.
One of our absolute favorite body shapes is the often-underrated 0000 (Quad-0). Legend has it that in the 1960s, New York-based luthier Matt Umanov converted a Martin F-9 archtop jazz guitar into a flat-top, thereby creating the very first “0000.” This body shape is almost as wide at the lower bout as a Dreadnought, though less deep and significantly more tapered. The result: The 0000 delivers a magnificent, voluminous bass that never overpowers the mids and highs.
