The Dan Armstrong<br \/>\nPlexi Guitar is a reissue of his 1969 creation, which was as innovative<br \/>\nfor its unique see-through design as it was for its interchangeable<br \/>\npickups. This guitar was most famously wielded by Keith Richards in the<br \/>\nlate 1960s and early 1970s, as seen in the legendary concert film Gimme Shelter.<br \/>\nThe pickups are removeable, giving the Dan Armstrong Plexi Guitar two<br \/>\ndistinct tonal options. Whether you’re shopping for a guitar dripping<br \/>\nwith vintage vibe or a versatile tone machine, the Dan Armstrong Plexi<br \/>\nGuitar fits the bill! Ampeg Dan Armstrong Plexi Guitar at a Glance: Pickups<br \/>\nControls<br \/>\nBridge<br \/>\nPickups<br \/>\nThe<br \/>\nAmpeg ADA6 Dan Armstrong Guitar comes equipped with two removable<br \/>\npickups, each with it’s own distinct sound. The RT or Rock Treble<br \/>\npickup is an exact duplicate of the original RT from 1969, known for<br \/>\nits spectacularly bright high end. Pure Rock and Roll! The ST or<br \/>\nSustain Treble pickup, on the other hand, is a dual blade,<br \/>\nhum-canceling pickup that offers a fatter tone and tremendous sustain,<br \/>\nuseful for modern soloing. The pickups can be interchanged by removing<br \/>\nthe small thumb screw on the rear of the body and sliding the existing<br \/>\nunit out of the pickup cavity. Controls<br \/>\nThe unique<br \/>\nAmpeg Dan Armstrong Tone Control circuit offers incredible tonal<br \/>\nflexibility from a single pickup unit. A 3-position switch is used to<br \/>\nallow various “presets”. In the Center position, the Tone control is<br \/>\nbypassed with the signal sent from the Volume control directly to the<br \/>\ninstrument output jack. In the Forward position, the Tone control acts<br \/>\nin a conventional way, smoothly reducing high frequencies to a warm,<br \/>\ndark timbre. In the Rear position, different frequencies are affected<br \/>\nby the Tone control, which allows a sound reminiscent of a half-cocked<br \/>\nwah pedal. Good for overdriven solos! When the Tone control is fully on<br \/>\n(clockwise) little effect will be heard. As the Tone control is rotated<br \/>\ncounterclockwise, the effect of the Front and Rear switch positions<br \/>\nbecomes more apparent. A bit of experimentation will provide you with<br \/>\nsome interesting and useful sounds. Bridge<br \/>\nThe Ampeg<br \/>\nDan Armstrong Guitar uses a carved rosewood bridge mounted to a steel<br \/>\nbridge plate. Small brass inserts are inlaid into the bridge, which<br \/>\nallows accurate intonation for string sets using an unwound “G”. A<br \/>\nsmall screw under the bridge plate mounts into a threaded insert under<br \/>\nthe bridge to keep the bridge in place during string replacement. This<br \/>\nscrew has been set at the factory to be tight enough to keep the bridge<br \/>\nin place, but loose enough to allow adjustment when different string<br \/>\ngauges are used.
