One of the rarest birds in the Gibson aviary, the Super 300 Model was introduced in 1948 and discontinued just seven years later in 1955. During its short career, only a little over 200 Super 300’s were
produced, total, in case you’re wondering why you haven’t seen one in awhile. This example is from 1950, and is one of only 28 made that year. It is also surely one of the finest surviving specimens of this model known to exist. The guitar is in 100% original, museum quality, drop dead immaculate condition, even the frets are orignal and low too, exept a fixed and retouched crack in the back (pictures). All the original tobacco sunburst finish remains in pristine condition. Remarkably the finish appears free of even the customary checking one expects in instruments of this vintage, and it is unquestionably original. All the original hardware is intact and functioning perfectly as well, and even the original frets show virtually no signs of playwear. The top is carved of finely bookmatched quartersawn spruce, and the maple back is sprayed with birdseye figure, all under a superbly shaded tobacco
sunburst finish of remarkable subtlety. The neck is notable as well, having an absolutely contemporary feel, with none of the chunkiness often found
in guitars of the postwar era. And the voice is what one would expect: big
bold and commanding. Complete with its hardshell case. Jahrgang: 1950
