Martin OM-18 Sinker Mahogany

We are happy to offer you this very exclusive guitar: The OM-18 from the Martin Custom Shop with solid “Sinker” mahogany back and sides. But what is “Sinker” mahogany? Around 1900, it was common to transport logs by simply throwing the logs directly into the river and let the stream to the work. It was in the nature of this transport technique that a large part of the logs never arrived at their destination. Either they got stuck somewhere on the way or sank to the bottom of the river. Under water, these logs were perfectly preserved. More than 100 years later, such logs are still found in rivers. And every now and then this rare raw material becomes a unique musical instrument.

Martin Guitars in Nazareth, PA in the USA now builds, in very small numbers, beautiful guitars from this fine tonewood. To complete the exclusive choice of wood, this OM-18 has a top made of Swiss Alpine spruce.
